Powers of attorney in Surrey

A power of attorney gives another person authority to act for you in financial and legal matters. Westmere Law can help prepare or review the document, explain its effect, and arrange signing. The right document depends on what you want someone else to be able to do.

How we can help

  • Preparing or reviewing a power of attorney
  • Explaining its scope and effect
  • Arranging signing and discussing related planning

Planning for incapacity

In BC, an enduring power of attorney can continue during incapacity if it meets the legal requirements. It concerns financial affairs; it is not a substitute for every health-care or personal-care planning document. A representation agreement may also be relevant. The choice of decision-maker, the powers granted and when those powers begin deserve careful consideration.

Preparing a document or signing an existing one

Let us know whether you need a new power of attorney, advice on an existing document, or assistance with signing a form supplied by a bank or another organization. These are different instructions. A signature appointment may require further review before the document can be signed, particularly if it is intended for use outside BC.

What to think about before we meet

  • Who you trust to act for you and whether you want an alternate.
  • Which matters the person should handle and any limits you want to discuss.
  • Whether the authority should start immediately or only in particular circumstances.
  • Existing powers of attorney or representation agreements, and any bank or recipient requirements.

Appointments and fees

Request a quote for preparation, review or signing, as applicable. Office appointments are available in Surrey by arrangement, including early morning and evening appointments. Ask about mobile visits if travel is difficult; availability and an additional travel fee will need to be confirmed. Start with a brief inquiry rather than sending financial records or other confidential documents.
