Affidavits & declarations in Surrey
If you have been asked to swear an affidavit or make a statutory declaration, Westmere Law can help with the required oath, affirmation or declaration. Appointments are with a practising BC lawyer who also provides notarial services.
How we can help
- Swearing or affirming an affidavit
- Making a statutory declaration
- Discussing drafting or advice if also needed
Signing is a formal step
An affidavit contains a statement made under oath or affirmation. A statutory declaration is another formal way of declaring facts to be true. The receiving court, agency or organization determines which document it requires. You must understand the document and be able to make the statement yourself.
Preparing for your appointment
- Bring the unsigned document, all exhibits or attachments, and the recipient’s instructions.
- Bring identification; confirm the appropriate identification when booking.
- Wait to sign until the lawyer gives you instructions at the appointment.
- Let us know beforehand if you need help preparing the document, an interpreter, or accessibility arrangements.
Do you need drafting or legal advice?
Taking an oath or witnessing a signature is different from preparing a document or advising on its contents. If you need help deciding what to say, responding to a legal proceeding, or understanding your obligations, mention that when booking so the scope and fee can be discussed. An appointment for signing alone does not mean the lawyer has reviewed the merits of your matter.
Office or mobile signing
Request an appointment at our Surrey office or ask about a visit to your location in the Lower Mainland. Please identify the type of document, how many people will sign and any deadline when requesting a quote. Additional travel fees apply to mobile visits. Avoid sending detailed facts or confidential documents through the initial inquiry form.
